Masterclass in Staying Single
Engine: Unreal Engine 5
Intended Platform: PC
Approximate Date of Development: May 5th, 2024
What is it?
Masterclass in Staying Single (or MiSS for short) is a short visual novel game that my team 2B2D developed for the Thoughtful Game Jam, which took place from April 12th to May 5th 2024.
The game is a playful parody on dating simulation games, where the goal is to enrage your date until they get up and leave. If you’re successful you get to go back to gaming on your PC, but if you fail to make your date hate you, you just might end up saying “I do”!
This was the first game jam that me and my group had ever entered, either solo or with a team. It was a great experience learning to work on a short timeline and with a small team of developers!
My role
My role on this team was primarily UI/UX Programmer. I was responsible for all of the menu functionalities and visuals and I did all of the animations and captions for the start and end sequences of the game. Since we are a small team (4 people) there were some tasks that I took care of that fell outside of the UI/UX category. This includes some minor programming bug fixes, creation and implementation of the timer, and writing of some of the dialogue.
